Brief Description:  Tension stabilator cables (32-14)

Now that the stabilator is installed I can tighten up the cables. I reached out to some friends at work to see if I could borrow a tensiometer. They are really expensive and I may end up getting one later, but I'm still trying to save for that engine, so I asked around. One of my co-workers, David Gallagher, has built a Zenith Zodiac 601XL (similar to RV-12) and let me borrow. The previous person that borrowed his gauge, had it for such a long time that and felt guilty, and then built this nice box to store it. Well my friend Dave hinted that the box would look nice with some gold inlay ;) Well since I'm just a poor builder, I better get it back to him quickly.
Anyway, I secured the control sticks as instructed and added a weight to the back of the stabilator. My cleco bucket worked out nicely since I could remove or add clecos to get just enough weight to make it sink in the back, but not so much that it would stretch the cables when I tried to set the cable length. I tightened the lower cable until the control stich just start to lift off. It contacts back at the stabilator before the control stick contacts the stops (just barely). Then it was just a matter of tightening the cables (2 turns on each cable) until I hit my target tension. The instructions call out 35-45 lbs for 70 deg day, but the garage was closer to 55 deg, so I set it a little tighter (~50). I'll check it again before inspection and first flight...I'm sure it will change, but its working for now. Thanks for the loaner Dave.
