Brief Description:  Attach map box (29A-08)

I started with completing the prep and attaching the plate nuts for the center panel (29A-09), then came back to attach the map box door and mount it to the right panel.

Update: I would recommend attaching the map box first, and then attach the door.

Per 29A-08 rev 0 the instructions call out to squeeze AN426AD3-3.5 for 12 places around the map box perimeter to attach it to the right panel, then use CCR-264SS-3-2 for the other 5 locations where you can't get to with the squeezer. Well I don't know what size yoke they are using, but my 3" (standard) yoke could only get to 9 and maybe with a 4" yoke (non-standard) you could get to 2 more. This would be easier if I had a rivet gun, but they are quite expensive and not required for a RV-12, so I thought. Well I ended up trying something, which turned out OK in the end, but was a lot of trouble along the way. I've never really liked the CCR-264SS-3-2 rivets, but I understand it necessary sometimes, but I really wasn't fond of using them to hold the map box camloc receptacle. I could totally see a passenger saying "what's in here?", then opening and trying to close only to end up pushing the camloc receptacle right through the hole. The CCR-246SS-3-2 are fine to hold plate nuts that aren't going to messed with too much, but I wasn't confident about the camloc. So I decided to go with solid rivets....and being cheap, I thought I could come up with a way to set them without the rivet gun. See next entry for the results…
