Brief Description:  Final drill longeron holes for panel base (29A-05)

Well this is a decision point...install the 209 nut plates on the panel base shelf if planning to install the Dynon system, but not if planning the Garmin system. The Garmin display is slightly larger and will cover up the holes. Well I would love to get to Oshkosh one more time to compare the two systems again, but I have a work conflict this year. I did see that Dynon now has the 2020 compliant ADS-B available and I think I am partial to the Dynon system, so I went with adding the 20 nut plates. I can always change my mind later, but Dynon seems to offer everything I need/want and is a little cheaper. Plus I'm not a big fan of the shiny screens on the Garmin, although that would be easy to fix with a screen protector.

Anyway, I completed drilling the longerons and everything fits up nicely. I had to tug on the longeron slightly to get it flush with the panel base, but otherwise it fit up perfectly.

Now I've come to the realization that if I attach the panel bas I will have very limited access to paint the interior. So I've decided to start researching paint and equipment. I did a lot of research and talked with other builders (Steve Melton is a coworker and has a long informative post out on Vansairforce.net), I have some limitations that I had to consider, one being my compressor sizer was only a 29 gal, 2hp, 7.3 cfm at 40psi, which means I'm not going to be able to support a full size HVLP gun (Devilbiss finishline), so I will have to settle for maybe a Devilbiss startingline mini-gun. I think this will work out well since I'm only doing the interior and much of the areas will be in tight places, so I don't need the coverage of a full size gun. I was thinking about PPG concept, since I've heard it's very durable, but the paint store guy (Smyth Auto & Paint in Mt. Caramel, OH) is trying to talk me into Valspar. Still a lot to do before I decide on paint (air dryer, air filter, booth set up, masking, prep work). Hmmmmm, Father’s day is around the corner.
