Brief Description:  Fwd upper fuselage (29A-02)

No biggie here attaching the nutplates to the firewall. I did take a look at the dimples on the bottom flange and saw that all the places that required dimples lined up with the locations I dimpled on the fire wall shelf, except for to places. These were located at the second set of from the right side (see photo).

Also the next step requires fuel tank sealant on the flange prior to attaching to the fire wall shelf. Well, of course I didn't have any and I was also confused about why fuel tank sealant on the flange and not fire wall sealant. So I did some research and dug up all sorts of useful and not so useful opinions. I decided to go through the manual and high light all wording associated to the use of fire wall sealant and fuel tank sealant. My conclusion was that it looks like fuel tank sealant is a great adhesive and is used to hold and seal flanges, where fire wall sealant is good to protect and seal holes from leakage of engine compartment gasses into the cabin. I decided to stick with the Vans directions and I ordered some of both for the several steps to come. I ordered a pint of each from sky geek at a fairly reasonable price along with a plunger and nozzles.
