Brief Description: Right Wing Service Bulletin (SB 14-11-03)
I never did receive the #22 drill size from Avery...I'm not sure it's a very common size, except for this Service Bulletin. Anyway, went to Harbor Freight and picked up some drill bits, figure I don't need to drill too many holes. Next step was to install the mega pull rivets (BSPQ-5-4). Note the directions call out for a BSPQ-5-2, but the inventory sheet and the rivets included were the BSPQ-5-4. I also check out all the comments on the VANS air force web site and saw that many were having trouble with the mandrel snapping off proud of the rivet head, so I tried all the techniques, but still ended up with the mandrel sticking out. I ended up needing 50 Psi on my rivet puller to set the rivet with the heavy duty puller I got from Plane Tools.
Drilled out the #22 holes in prep for the BSPQ-5-4 Rivets
I followed all the recommendations, but still ended up with the mandrel proud of the rivet head
All the BSPQ-5-4 in place, but need to come back and grind down the mandrel that sticks out
