Brief Description: Landing light cut out (40-02 & 40-04)
I was a little nervous about cutting the hole for the landing light. I got the template located just right and very carefully used my exacto knife to trace the outline of the hole and mark all the holes to be drilled. I then used the cut-off saw on the dremmel for the rough cut and followed up with the sanding drum attachment to final size. I then deburred with the files and smoothed the edge with the scotchbrite wheel. It turned out very nice. I also pushed the lens in place and drilled the holes. Again I was a little nervous...I don't have a plexi bit, so I just used one of my well-used #30 bits and tried to be very patient and cut slowly...it worked out well. The hardest part was keeping the lens pushed up tight against the inside of the skin. I basically jammed a 2x4 between the lens and the spar to keep pressure on it while I was drilling. I used padding to protect the lens from getting scratched. Next I'll trim down the lens and prepare the nut plate.
