Brief Description:  Building the Rudder Skeleton

Clecoed the R-606PP, R-607PP, and R-608PP reinforcement plates to R-802PP rudder spar. (Image 1)

Fabricated the R-717 spacer, and two R-716 rudder bottom attach strips out of a .032" aluminum strip according to Blueprint specifications.

Trimmed R-710 according to Blueprint specifications.

Enlarged the bottom most rod end hole of R-704 to 3/8" dia. using unibit.

Clecoed R-704, R-45PD, R-710, R-717 and the rod end bearing platenuts to R-802PP rudder spar. (See Image 2).

Flutted R-703 tip rib and clecoed to R-802PP Rudder Spar.

Enlarged to #30 the holes that attach R-703 to R-802PP. Removed R-703 from R-802PP

Clecoed the R-713 counterbalance skin on R-703. Flutted the forward flange of R-703 so that the fwd holes in R-713 match those in the fwd flange of R-703.

Drilled to final size the holes that attach R-713 to R-703.
Drilled to final size the holes in the R-802PP spar web
Drill to final size the holes that attach R-710 to R-405PD and R-704

Clecoed the R-801PP skin, R-703 and R-713 to understructure.
Clamped the R-716 (LH & RH) rudder bottom attach strips to the assembly

Match-drilled R-710 and R-716 (LH & RH) to the rudder assembly using holes in R-801PP skin and R-704 as a drill guide.

Drilled remaining holes in R-713 and R-801PP to final size

Marked and disassembled parts.
