After a solid 2 weeks of airplane on hold to build a patio and firepit in the backyard, I finally got around to alodining the fuel tanks. I tried a new method for metal prep which worked fairly well. For small parts I wash in a large batch with bon ami and water before final wipe down with degreaser. For large pieces I scuff and wipe clean with denatured alcohol before final wipedown with degreaser. Both methods seems to work, but the key factor remains minimal time from scuffing to priming / Alodining.
