Brief Description:  Aft Fuselage

Decided to finish closing up the aft fuselage now that I was able to complete wiring of the GSA 28 Pitch and Yaw trim connectors and aft fuselage wiring. Had a few difficult to rech rivets, especially the 12 or so midway down the top skin that Matt helped me buck.

The second image is an intersting one of a rivet that I dilled out and had to redo. The interesting piece is that I drilled out the bad rivet all the way through and never got all of the old rivet shank completely out of the hole. I then made the mistake of bucking a new rivet in the hole and ultimately split the rib metal at the dimple. Since this was the start of a crack I had to get creative to fix the problem.

First I drill out the #40 hole to #30 hole. Since this didn't get rid of the crack I then used a sanding drum on a dremel to sand down the back side of the dimple until the skin was smooth and flush. I then deburred the hole on the inside and bucked a 4-4 oops rivet into the hole. The result is actually a pretty good looking rivet that holds all the metal securely together with no cosmotic flaws on the outside. This was only possible because I used an Oops rivet with a -4 shank rather than the -3 rivet called for in this spot on the skin. Another lesson learned.
