Brief Description:  Fabricated the shelf skin

Got the shelf skin cut today. You can't see in the pictures but I covered the frame with blue painters tape so I had something for the construction paper to rest on as I taped up the termplate.

I used .025 for the shelf skin so it had some rigidity to it. You could get this from Spruce but I got it from Airparts. A 6x4 sheet cost $100 shipped. Leaves me some extra for anything else. I could have went a little thicker but this seems like it will work good and it's easier to work with than thicker material. Should have just picked this up from them when I was in OSH and I could have saved $25 in shipping.

After I traced the template I went back around and took off another 1/16th of an inch on the sides and back just to add some clearance. The fit is very good but I could have left the 1/16th on the back.

I was going to try and make a tight fit around the forward bulkhead brace but this turned out to be a bad idea. It is too tight of a space to try and get it to pop in and I ended up having it get wedged into place. Only way to get it loose was to take the cutoff saw tothe skin and cut some clearance. If you follow this mod, just cut the section out so it can slide straight over the brace.

I estimate this little side project will add around 5.5 cubic feet of baggage space to the aircraft. This increases baggage area volume by about 43%, bumping it from 13 cubic feet to 18.5. Not bad for around 15 hours of work and $100 or so in materials.
