Brief Description:  Began fabrication for Hat shelf

Seeing how at least one person expressed intrest in how this little side project would work out, I created a seperate category to make it easier to find and I will try to keep fairly detailed logs on it.

Starting out I fabricated a rear support using some leftover .125x3/4x3/4 angle I had. This may seem a little heavy but when I cut the angle off where it overlaps the longerons I loose a lot of strength. I then cut two reliefs where this angle bumps into the bulkhead.

The model for this effort Mark Phillips design that he put in his RV-6. You can find his write up here: http://websites.expercraft.com/n51pw/index.php?q=log_entry&log_id=4960. If you look at his pictures you can see he essentially attached the angle to the bulkheads thereby keeping them level with the longerons. I'm still going back and forth on this but my current plan is to span the longerons and distribute any weight more on them than the bulkheads for a little more strength. This does mean I will need to use a spacer along the longerons however. I'm going to mull it over today and I might just scratch this and go with using the bulkheads.
