If you ask any builder of a Van's aircraft what part was theiggest PITA you will almost always get something about fiberglass or windows. It's weel known that these components aare not the quality that you would hope and require a lot of work to make fit correctly. Because of this, a strong aftermarket has popped up in supplying these components in a more completed fit and finish. In looking at my windshield I have a couple of issues. First, when I trimmed it initally, I followed the scribe lines which were nowhere close. This led me to taking a bit too much off the port side. It's workable but not ideal. The other issue is that, while the side windows have a light tint/UV blocker, the windshield does not. Because of these two items I'm looking at Cee Baily's windshield. It's an additional cost but the hours saved, and the tinted option, will make it weel worth while.

While I was at it, I brought the doors out of storage so I could put a new coat of plexiglass protector on as it was peeling off. This is a product called discoat which is basically a common white glue with a blue dye added. It provides light scuff protection and peels off easily. One thing about this stuff is it doesn't like to be put over old films of it as it will bubble the old stuff off.
