Brief Description:  Installed EchoUAT ADSB replacing NAVWORX ADS600

Two years ago, I installed the NavWorx ADS-600 ADSB (Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast) and the UAT Antenna. Then the FAA decertified NAVWORX equipment because of a GPS error. Several of the 864 pilots who installed their system were able to get waivers from the FAA to use their ADSB as long as they didn’t use the GPS interface and directly pumped-in WAAS GPS signals from a GARMIN GNS 450W or better. I tried to get the waiver, too, but I didn’t have the latest software update from the NAVWORX people and the FAA wouldn’t allow my waiver. I couldn’t contact NAVWORX either because they declared bankruptcy. So about 850 of us were out the $1200 for the system and all the hours it took to install it. After a fair amount of research, I found a company who said they would give from NAVWORX customers a huge discount and their ADSB would match the wiring already installed. I bought the system and received it a couple months later. Not all the wiring is compatible unless you get their WAAS GPS interface Module, but it was pretty close. It took me about 6 hours to get the NAVWORKS unit out and the EchoUAT installed. I was able to use my own WAAS GPS. Just like the NAVWORX unit was supposed to do, the hardware allows Air Traffic Control Surveillance Traffic Tracking services through a UAT (Universal Access Transceiver). The unit is paired to my Mode S Transponder and it sends a very accurate GPS altitude, vector, speed, signals and also shows your tail number as part of a traffic target to other aircraft with ADS-B UAT transmitter/receiver capability and also to ground stations & satellites. A single point of entry allows the squawk code to be transmitted by both the onboard transponder and the ADS-B unit. This unit is also dual-band, so I can receive and transmit to both airliners and GA aircraft. The traffic is shown on my Grand Rapids EFIS and on my i-Pad using ForeFlight and my installed FlightStream 210. The EchoUAT offers full ADS-B OUT (transmit), and IN (receive) delivering traffic and weather
