Brief Description:  Install New Panel LED Lights

I’ve decided to do several small projects prior to installing the engine. The first of these was to replace a broken LED panel light-strip. The original LED strip was designed to be shortened by breaking off 1-foot segments at soldering joints. The bad news was the solder strip is extremely thin and virtually any bending at these joints will break them off. Several months ago, when I was doing something in the cockpit, I inadvertently pressed on the strip and it came apart at the first segmented soldering joint. I ordered a different type of LED light-strip and had to solder the very tiny connecting wires while laying upside-down on my neck and shoulders, on top of the fuel tank shutoff handle. After screwing up the soldering several times and making the wires successively shorter and shorter, I finally got the job done; even managing to get shrink wrap in the solder joints in the right places. The first picture is the broken LED light strip. The next picture is looking straight up at the new LEDs installed under the dashboard. The last picture is the red-glow of the lights turned down low. I wired these to the panel dimmer-dual control-rheostats so when the dimmer is turned down low, only the red lights illuminate. When I turn up the rheostat, the white LED lights also turn on. It does an excellent job of lighting and despite the initial problems, I’m glad I installed them.
