Brief Description:  Installing VOR/ILS Antenna in Vertical Stabilizer

I decided it was time to install the VOR/ILS Whip Antenna in the tip of the Vertical Stabilizer. I will be installing a Garmin SL-30 along with a Grand Rapids EFIS for the HSI and glide slope indications. I was originally going to install an internal wing tip VOR/ILS antenna unit but I have Grand Rapids magnetometers in each wing tip. The VOR antenna would distort the magnetometer polarity so decided to get the traditional VS combination antenna for the VOR/ILS. In the first "out of focus" picture, I intend to pull the antenna wire up through the top (forward) grommet and will secure it using an Adele Clamp to the top of the mounting screws. Then I will take the antenna wire back down through the bottom (aft) grommet and loop it back up through the center grommet where it attaches to the antenna mounting plate. The pupose of all the holes to to secure the antenna wire in a loop configuration so it won't just hang on the terminal fitting. The two screw posts secure the antenna mount plate. I also had to cut slots out of the fiberglass tip because the mount plate is circular and wider then the tip. In the 2nd picture you can see the antenna mounted inside the VS fiberglass tip with the two V-whip antennas inserted into the mount plate. Once I install some antenna wire, I'll pull the cleco's and insert pop-rivets to secure the fiberglass tip. I haven't looked at the fiberglass instructions yet. It looks like I will need to build an aft plug to seal up the back of the fiberglass tip.
