Brief Description:  Final Canopy Latch Installation

The first task of final plexiglass installation was to heat the garage to 80F for a couple days and remount the canopy on the frame. I clecoed the top center-strip and decided to make some adjustments to the slider canopy-latch. Even though I thought I drilled the retaining screw at exactly 90 degrees, when the canopy is closed and locked, the exterior latch is not parallel to the airstream. I don’t know what affect this will have when flying, but I’d just as soon not find out I have a slow-rolling or turning affect because the latch is deflecting air slightly sideways. To correct this I needed to file the s-shaped aluminum hook so it engaged the D-handle pin on the rollover-bar. This took several attempts of filing, reassembling, latching, removing, filing some more and reassembling. In the end, the exterior latch is not perfectly parallel to the slipstream, but its very close. Any more filing, and I may need to refabricate another s-shaped latch. After the latch assembly was as good as I could get it, I called it a day.
