Its been several months since I’ve updated my Kitlog. I finally finished the configuration and software updates for all the avionics and before I secured all the wiring bundles in the cockpit, I decided I should create some comprehensive Operations Manuals, a 1st Flight Manual, and a Continued Airworthiness Manual. The Ops Manuals contain all the pilot’s guides for all the installed equipment (Avionics, Electrical Systems, Fuel System, Propeller, and Engine). The 1st Flight Manual includes all the checklist items to be completed prior-to and during the 1st several flights including all the in-flight calibrations that need to be done on the Grand Rapids EFIS and Engine Information System; the GPS integration and calibration of the GNS 430W, the GTX 327 Mode C Transponder, the EchoUAT ADSB, the TruTrac DigiFlight IIVSG Autopilot, the GDU Navigation System and the Dynon D-60 EFIS; the calibration of the Marker Beacon, ACK E-04 ELT, PA-700 Vertical Compass, and the endurance of the Backup Batteries. It also includes all the Constant Speed Propeller and Engine Operational Checks and maintenance for the 1st flights. The continued Airworthiness Manual includes all the periodic checks and maintenance required for Continued Operations. In order to complete this I also compiled an Equipment List which includes all the Serial numbers, Part Numbers, Purchase Dates and any Airworthiness Directives, Periodic Maintenance Requirements, and Service Bulletins as well as compliance dates and next-due dates for every system and major part in the airplane. Not every home-builder does this, but its all required on certified aircraft. This will make sure all the maintenance is done just as it would be on a certified aircraft and should help pass the initial FAA inspections; cover all the first flight and safety issues; and will be nice when I finally have to resell the airplane. I also now have all the information I need to build the Pilots Operating Handbook and In-Flight Checklists.
