Brief Description:  Replaced Modified Brake Reservoir and Resealed all

It’s been a couple months since I was able to work on the RV. I’ve been helping our kids sell their house, move, and buy another house south of Denver. I finally repaired and replaced the Brake Reservoir to its correct location. Originally, I installed the reservoir just below the firewall bracing angle iron. When I got back from Denver I reinstalled it where it originally was and then took a look at the plans which clearly show the reservoir flange bolts going through the firewall bracing. So, true to form, I took it all apart, relocated the reservoir to where it is supposed to be mounted and riveted a patch over all the original holes. I also sealed the back side of the patch with RTV to keep exhaust fumes and heat from entering the cockpit. Next, I either installed nutplates or safety-wired bolt-heads on anything mounted to the firewall that had any possibility of needing to be removed/replaced for repair or maintenance; following the advice in Tony Bingelis’ book called “Firewall Forward—Engine Installation Methods. “It is a good practice to use nutplates to secure all the various parts, mounts and sensors to the firewall so you can remove the parts from the engine side of the firewall without needing a second person standing on their head under the panel to get a wrench on bolts or nuts.” Finally, I resealed every brake-line, fuel-line, fuel-vents, and auxiliary pump fittings with sealant approved for brake and aviation fuel. I had originally sealed all the fittings with the same Teflon sealant I’ve used on plumbing fittings in my house. I recently read a blog from an RV builder who thought that was a good idea until he got contamination from the sealant in his fuel injectors and his brakes leaked. It took me several hours to get access to all the fittings under the dash, not without saying some very bad words accompanying multiple cuts and scrapes on arms, fingers, knuckles, and head. It’s finally done and I really hope none of the fittings leak. Much more of this kind of fun and I would serious
