Brief Description:  Fit and Drill Instrument Panel Forward Top Skin

After the subpanel assembly is fully assembled, its time to fit and drill the Instrument Panel Forward Top Skin. In picture 2 & 3, I clecoed the top skin. This was a bit of a chore and sort of humorous. The skin is fairly thick and as I attached clecos to the folded sides, the stress of the folded skin over the curvature of the panel assembly was enough to start shooting clecos out the other side. It was like trying to dodge popcorn kernals as they are cooking on the stove in an open pan. Actually, if you could picture me dodging and jinking around flying bullet cartridges while trying to keep the skin wrapped around the panel, it would probably portray a more accurate picture. In the end, I won the battle and only got slightly wounded by two clecos... Now I need to drill all the holes to size, debur, dimple and reattach the forward skin in preparation for the forward canoipy decks. I am also going to install Stein Aire Vent Controls. They are a little pricey but I think the quality is worth the cost.

I haven't decided whether I will install a center three-lever throttle quadrant or the traditional throttle and prop controls so I didn't drill the engine control brackets to the F-7105A subpanel. Now is also the time to order all my electrical wire, terminal strips, and antenna wires so I can install all the wiring that comes in from the wings, tail, and fuselage. It will be much easier to install the wires now, than after the installation of the top forward skin and the canopy...so I expect a couple week delay to study my wiring diagrams and to get everything ordered from Aircraft Spruce.
