Brief Description:  Final Fitting/Install of the Vertical Stabilizer

After three attempts to dry-fit the vertical stabilizer so it was perfectly vertical and retained the 1/4" offset to the left, it appeared like I needed to trim an additional 3/8" of the bottom of the stabilizer attach plate. The VAN's instructions tell you to place a straight edge along the back of the vertical stabilizer hinge brackets. The hingeline must remain perfectly vertical when you hold the straight edge on all three hinge brackets. If the vertical spar bends aft at the top when the front spar is clamped, the straight edge won't touch all three hinges; and you may mount the attach forward attach plate on the back side of the forward vertical stabilizer spar. NOTE: WHAT THE INSTRUCTIONS DON'T SAY IS MAKE CERTAIN THE REAR SPAR IS FLUSH AGAINST THE F-712 BULKHEAD WHEN YOU MAKE THIS MEASUREMENT. Mine wasn't when I did the hinge bracket alignment, so it appeared like I needed to cut 3/8" off the front spar to get all three hinge brackets to line up. After I made the cut and reinstalled the vertical stabilizer I realized my original fitting wasn't flush against the F-712 bulkhead. Fortuneately, I had enough remaining spar to mount the attach bracket after I trrimmed an additional 1/8" off the mounting bracket. Everything finally came together after lots of measuring and adjustments because I hadn't drilled all the rear spar bottom holes and could make some adjustments on the rear spar to accomodate lowering the front slightly. To make a long story just a little "shorter"...my tail is between 3/8" and 1/2" lower then every other RV-7A out ther burning holes in the sky....guess that's how I'll tell my bird apart from everyone else's.
