Brief Description:  Installing the F-6111 ribs to the aft top skin

Fitting the F-6111 should have been simple but I mad it hard and cut the left F-1116 rib too short because I tried to flute and bend the rib so the one inch flat side of the rib conformed to the skin...wrong! The picture of this rib on Drawing 41 is very poor and obviously I am very stupid. In a feeble attempt to justify my stupidity the instructions for installing this rib stink..."Cleco the F-7112 Skin and Trim the F-6111 ribs to length. The ribs are not atteached to the longeron on the bottom but have one common rivet on the top. The ribs must be twisted and possible fluted to acheive the proper shape."

OK...crappy picture; trimed to what length; bent and twisted how; and maybe fluted--how about 64 flutes??? When you look at the picture of one that's installed properly it's pretty obvious how this rib fits in...but I didn't look at anybody's pictures and I tried to fit the first rib into this curved shape thinking the big, wide, flat side of the rib should be riveted to the skin instead of the rib flange. I should have taken pictures of my first attempt. It was a fluting masterpiece...64 flutes, bent, torqued and twisted to fit. After I finally got it to fit I decided to look at someone else's fluting job to see if it was as masterful as mine and that's when I realized I just wasted six hours trying to fit this rib in the wrong way!

20 minutes later I had the right F-6111 installed properly (image 3) and then it was off to the computer to order a new F-6111-L. Not all was lost...in my perpetual state of wanting to kick myself I decided to make myself feel better and I ordered a TCW Safety Trim Intelligent servo controller and an Advanced Flight Systems Professional Angle of Attack system; just like the Navy pilots use to hit a moving moving runway at just the exact speed and AoA. I may not be able to fit a dog-gone rib into the aft skin worth a hoot but but now I'll know exactly when my ship is going to fall out of the sky!...and now I'll be able to trim from both the right and left side witho
