Brief Description: Bled Brakes/ Fixed Gradual Tire Air Leak
|
|
One of the first things I needed to do before I complete the wheel pants and fairings was to check all the brake lines, fittings, and cylinders from the brakes to the reservoir. The brake system requires less than a quart of ROYCO 782 Synthetic, Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid. I checked all the fittings and lines for obvious kinks or defects, then blew out the lines with compressed air. Next, I bled the brakes and tested the system. Additionally, ever since I mounted the tires on the wheels, I’ve had issues with a slow leak; on all three tires. After talking with a friend, I decided to add “Green Slime” for automotive tires to stop the leaks. The process is a little messy, but nothing like bleeding the brakes last week. The process is simple; remove the inner tube valve stem core, connect a hose to the valve stem, and pump in the prescribed amount slime based on the size of the tire. Next, replace the core and spin the wheels to create a lining of “slime”. I had to look up the tire pressures, and even though there is a lot of divergence on the recommended pressures, I ended up with 45 lbs. in the mains and 42 lbs. in the nose. After I start flight testing, I’ll see if I need to adjust the pressures. So far, the gradual leaks have stopped.
