Brief Description:  Aft Canopy Skirts (Cont.)

The first pic shows the completed left side of the aft canopy skirt. The second pic shows me very happy there is no aft gap when the canopy is closed. The right side posed some new challenges because my canopy frame had a bow (or bulge) where the welds were made and it was extremely difficult to get as tight a fit over the aft fuselage. I finally fixed the problem be bending a curve into the aft part of the skirt. I installed the narrow upper section as I did on the right side and the “doghouse” over the glide rail and a sliding phenolic spacer with fish-line leader to seal the doghouse when the canopy is closed. I also fabricated a pull-handle just forward of the doghouse to assist with closing the canopy; similar to the ones I crated for the side skirts. Finally, after over 80 hours of work and lots of sleepless nights, I’m glad I’ll never have to build canopy skirts again!
