Brief Description:  Aft Canopy Skirts (Cont.)

Drill (using a home-made “hole-finding ’tool’), and pull DOWN & FORWARD without buckling the front edge as you drill (see Pic #1). This is definitely a 2-person job! Unfortunately, no one is available to help. (see pic #2) note the smile is just for the camera…I’m not having any fun at all. Drill and pull DOWN & FORWARD without buckling the front edge as you drill. Hole #1 went well…GOOD! Hole #2 went well…GOOD! Hole #3…NOT-SO-GOOD! I drilled part way through the rivet in my “hole finding tool” during hole #2 without realizing my tool was now defective. On hole #3, the rivet came out of the hole finding tool and slipped out of the previously drilled hole in the canopy & frame and now I have a new hole partially drilled through the plexiglass; all the way through the skirt, and ¼” off the place where the hole was supposed to be. I said some very bad things, then came up with CANOPY RECOVERY PLAN v1: A) The new hole only went about 1/16” into the plexiglass and can be epoxied without irreparable damage to the plexiglass. B) I can Bondo the hole through the skirt as long as there is room to dimple and rivet a new hole in the skirt. C) I can make a new hole finding tool and from now on, make sure I don’t drill through the rivet. D) I think this will work Hole #4…GOOD! Hole #5…CRAP… I did it again! While pulling Down and forward, the front edge of the skirt buckled and the hole elongated. This skirt is ruined. NEW PLAN…Start all over using the other skirt flipped upside down and order a new skin! I now see why VAN's labeled this Skirt Skin C-666, If you are a bible student, "666" is the sign of SATAN. T really don't like these canopy skirts.
