Brief Description:  Fitting the Canopy Latch (continued)

This afternoon I drilled and tapped a hole for the machine screw that holds the exterior handle onto the latch tubing assembly. This required lots of messing around to get the hole aligned so the handle is aligned with the slip stream in the fully closed position. The screw had to be rethreaded so the threads went all the way through the handle and inner latch tube assembly; and the handle had to be countersunk for the screw. After redoing this process several times, I finally used a different screw with threads all the way up the shank. Next, I ground-down and sanded the exterior handle so it was rounded and would have less air resistance while flying. Finally, I drilled two 1/16” holes to accept a spring on the interior handle and the Latch Arm and reassembled everything onto the canopy frame. The Canopy Latch Arm still pulls the canopy slightly to the left and the center is too tight in the center of the roll bar. Next week, I will file the latch arm slightly to correct both issues. I’ve had enough “fun” for the day.
