Brief Description:  Marking the Canopy Centerline

I temporarily removed the protective plastic on the plexiglass to mark the fore/aft centerline on the outside of the canopy. This was a little disconcerting, because when I measured the centerline using the method the manual recommended, it differed from what I believe are the apparent centerline marks on the plexiglass made by the mold manufacturer. Using three different methods of measuring (using the side molding lines front-back and two places near the center; using the manufacturers centerline marks front and back [which weren’t in the center when I measured them]; and finally adjusting the manufacturers centerline marks to a measured centerline). I got three different centerlines that varied front-to-back by as much as 1”! I finally called up Van’s for advice and sort of got some help. The tech guy said to put the frame inside the canopy and move it for-and-aft; and side-to-side to see where it fits best, then mark the centerline. I already dislike this canopy building process. I can hardly wait until I finally get to what everyone says is the hard part…the rear canopy skirts. I've had the plexiglass baking at 85 degrees in the shop for two weeks so once I figure out this centerline issue, I'll make my first cuts.
