Brief Description:  Polyester-Epoxy Filler for Rivet Imperfections

It’s been very cold here in Montana with wind chill factors down to -30F, so it’s difficult to keep the shop at suitable temperatures to cut and drill the plexiglass sliding canopy. Instead, I decided it was time to do some bodywork on some imperfections caused from a bucking bar slipping or some minor scratches when I didn't protect the skin as well as I could have. This ended up to be a pretty a nasty job and took well over 20 hours total; over multiple days. I purchased some special polyester-epoxy filler specifically for aluminum bodywork, 2K epoxy self-primer, and 2K epoxy primer/sealer from an automotive refinishing supplier to do the job. After sanding with 85 grit, 125, grit, 250 grit and 350 grit sandpaper in an “X” pattern, I am very pleased with the final surfaces. It doesn’t show well in the pictures, but all the final surfaces are as smooth as glass and will paint-over very nicely. The first three pictures were my first attempt at applying the filler…I learned a lot about how not to do this. After nearly two hours of sanding it all off and reapplying multiple coats I now have a very nice finish.
