Brief Description: Install Filtered Air Bypass Control Cable
As I was installing cables, I thought I better check the engine parts to make sure I had all the controls I needed. That’s when I discovered both Van’s and my Lycoming Engine manufacturer recommended installing a Filtered Air Bypass System for my fuel injected engine, should I ever fly through rain, snow, or sleet. The bypass air enters through a door inside the cowling and goes directly into the fuel injection air intake; bypassing the filtered air from outside the cowlings. The installation instructions show mounting the cable control between the Throttle and Propeller Pitch Control Cables and exiting the firewall adjacent to where I mounted my battery. I didn’t have a lot of room, but I got it mounted and secure. It should do the job of opening the Air Bypass Doors when needed and it doesn’t interfere with the Throttle or Propeller Controls, even when it is fully retracted.
