Brief Description:  Install Engine Control Cables Continued

While routing the control cables under the dashboard, I had to fabricate and mount brackets to secure the cables. The first picture shows the Throttle Control Cable secured with a pretty heavy-duty mounting bracket in the foreground and the Propeller Pitch, Mixture, and Induction Filtered Air Bypass Control Cables passing through a forward-rib in the avionics compartment along with the brake lines. These are all secured with clamps prior to exiting the firewall. I previously purchased firewall penetration ball sockets for each of these cables and installed the grooved frames from the inside, just as the instructions directed. In reality, what made much more sense was to install the frames from the outside so I took apart all the mounting kits and reinstalled them from the outside. This was not easy because there was very limited access to tiny screws amongst all the wire bundles, fluid hoses, and my avionics cooling air fan. I had to disassemble almost all of these to get to the firewall penetration ball sockets. Multiple hours later I got all of the ball sockets reversed and routed the cables through them. Then I had to reinstall all the equipment, lines, and wiring. As with many things, I wish I had thought that through when I first installed them and not blindly followed the manufacturer's instructions. In the end, they all turned out nice and I can relatively easily install different control cables if by some unfortunate quirk of luck, I was provided cables that are the wrong length!!!
