Brief Description:  Fuel Pump & Cabin Heat Covers

Today I accomplished a final inspection of all the fuel lines to-and-from the high-pressure fuel pump and filter and installed the covers. After I was certain all the connections were secure, I blew out the lines (backwards) to make sure I didn’t have any particles in the filter and then straightened all the lines and wiring-bundles from the pump to the firewall and permanently installed the access covers and the fuel selector. A long time ago, I bought a Cleveland Aircraft Tools replacement Fuel Selector Valve Pointer because I thought it looked very nice. It still does, but the design is kind of weird. Below of the red, arrow-shaped tank selector, they have a thick spacing collar/washer and an embossed selector ring that apparently lays on top op the fuel pump cover. The embossed ring shows ‘Right & Left’ tank as well as the two “off” positions of the selector. The way this is designed, the spacer and the embossed ring would have the ability to vibrate and ‘float’ so the markings to show right/left/off could rotate up to 360 degrees. I thought it strange there was nothing in the instructions which said, “epoxy or rivet the rings to the cover after determining the selector detents were in the correct location”. So, after I made sure the fuel selector pointed to the correct fuel tanks (or off) I permanently installed the rings with a pop-rivet. Strange design, but it looks OK with the rivet.
