Brief Description:  Installed WxWORX XM/WX Satellite Weather Receiver

Today I Installed the WxWORX XM/WX Satellite Weather Receiver on the firewall. The WxWORX unit comes with a mounting plate, but I needed to reinforce the firewall with an additional 1/8” plate. My Grand Rapids Technologies (GRT) Electronic Flight Information System (EFIS) will serve as the interface module so all I needed to do was plug the supplied USB cord into the 2nd USB port on the GRT HX EFIS and configure the EFIS. I probably won’t use the WxWORX weather receiver for quite a while after I start flying due to subscription costs, but it will be a nice feature available, if I need it later. I also made quick-disconnect wire connections for my PAI-700 vertical compass lighting. This is a dry compass, designed to replace the float/liquid type compass and it satisfies the FAA requirement for a magnetic compass in an all glass cockpit. It uses eddy current damping and as such has no overshoot. The compass has a 2" vertical rotating dial which rotates around a fixed miniature airplane (lubber line) to present the magnetic heading of the aircraft at all times. Heading information is read at the 12 o'clock position and off the nose of the miniature aircraft. I won’t install the vertical compass until I have the forward top skin dash-panel and roll-bar brace installed. The compass will attach to the roll-bar brace via a clip-on mounting bracket.
