Brief Description: Installed (2) Appareo Stratus USB Charging Ports

Last week I unpacked all the interior Classic Aero Designs Aero-Aviator upholstery, seats and carpets to temporarily determine where to place the Appareo STRATUS USB charging ports Power Ports (for iPad, STRATUS 2S Receiver, & iPhone); based upon size of the fittings, where the upholstery & panels are located, and clearance room for the wires and connectors out the back of the USB Ports. The Aero Designs interior is very nice, but also covers nearly all the interior with carpets, panels, seats, and storage accessories. I finally decided to place the Appareo STRATUS USB charging ports Power Ports in the bottom of the F-704K Upright Cap Strips which cover the bracing for the wing root spars. The only modifications I had to do to the upholstery and the Upright Cap Strips was to cut a circle for the Power ports in a small piece of leather and the Cap Strips (see photos). I installed two Appareo USB charging ports (one on each side of the fuselage) in an area where cables will not interfere with either the pilot or co-pilot’s activities. I plan to mount the Portable STRATUS 2S receiver on the canopy plexiglass behind the pilot’s seat via a suction cup and my iPad will have a kneeboard mount. Additionally, I installed a switch for the two USB ports so I can turn the converter off when I am not using it. Each USB Power Unit draws 25mA when no external units are charging and 1.9 Amps each at 14V full output loads on both ports in each unit. Power is provided to the switch when the Battery Master is on. I also modified the side panels to accommodate the ELT Beacon Antenna and modified the carpet behind the pilot’s seat to fit around the Garmin FlightStream Receiver/Transmitter.
