Brief Description:  Repaired Brake Reservoir Welded Flanges

I have reviewed all systems installed to this point and realized I used the wrong sealant on all the brake and fuel system fittings. When I removed the brake reservoir from the firewall to reseal the tee-fitting in the cockpit, one of the welded flanges failed and broke off in my hand. I decided I could repair the flange by epoxying and riveting a new brace to the back of the welded flange. This is the refurbished oil reservoir. I also recently read Tony Bingelis book called “Firewall Forward—Engine Installation Methods. Tony mentions in his book it is a good practice to use nutplates to secure all the various parts, mounts and sensors to the firewall so you can remove the parts from the engine side of the firewall without needing a second person standing on their head under the panel to get a wrench on bolts or nuts. I have been fairly careful until this point in the building process to mount various items so they are accessible, but I’ve decided to replace as many of the mounting-bolts with nutplates as possible. When I reattach this brake reservoir, I will replace the bolts, nuts, and washers with bolts and nutplates.
