Brief Description:  Installed the Engine/Nosewheel Landing Gear Mount

To install the engine mount, the instructions say to align the frame with the firewall and re-drill the mounting holes to 3/8” and this should compensate for any variations in the frame and the weld-mount joints. That worked pretty good for three of the bolts, but the angle of the weld-mount on the fourth bolt was a different story. I initially thought the bolt just needed a little persuasion so I started beating it in with a ball peen hammer…in hindsight, that was not a stellar idea. After several whacks, I figured I better see what I am doing to the bolt threads and it was pretty ugly. Fortunately, I was able to rethread the bolt before I did too much damage. Before I did that, though, I made a trip downtown to every hardware and fastener place in town, hoping to find the same grade and size of bolt. Unfortunately, in Helena, Montana if it doesn’t fit on your garden tractor or your backyard fence, you probably won’t find it…so that led to plan “B” re-thread the bolt and re-drill the 3/8” hole by using the frame as a guide. That worked much better than I anticipated and I was able to torque all the bolts to 180 inch/pounds without any more problems.
