Brief Description: Pitot-Static System installation
Van's aircraft provides a very simple static system consisting of 2 static ports made from SD-42 BSLF blind rivets set into the fuselage side-skin. After setting the rivet, the mandrels are drilled out, making the rivet hollow. Then 1/8 inch clear plastic tubing is slipped over the protruding ends of the rivets. The joint is sealed with RTV silicone sealant. The lines are joined at one side with brass tee's and the tubing is routed forward to the instrument panel. Additionally, I installed an alternate static vent which can be opened from inside the cockpit in case the external ports freeze or somehow get blocked.
