Brief Description:  Fabricate cowl flap mechanism

Four 5/8 inch 4130 steel flat bar (actuator) arms will be welded to the 1/2 inch 4130 steel tube. A single actuator arm will be welded to the end of the shaft which will attach to the electric actuator. To provide a welding surface for mating the flat stock to the round tubing, prior to cutting the flat bars to length, a 1/2 inch diameter hole was drilled through the flat stock, then the bar was cut at the center of each hole leaving a half-moon shaped end that will mate to the round tubing. The five flat bars were rough-cut in this manner. Broke out the Oxy-Acetelene tanks and had time to start the weld for one of the actuator arms. When welding, care must be taken to not "blow" through the steel tubing (as the parts are heated) because the side wall of the tubing is slightly thinner than the flat stock. Should be able to finish the welds tomorrow. No pictures today.
