Completed "hogging" out the inner pre-preg on the cowl flaps. Then applied electrical tape to the outer surfaces (both cowling and flaps) along the edges I want after the fiberglass build-up is complete. The tape does two things: 1) provides the guide to file/trim too once the layup is done; 2) Keeps any resin drips along the edges from sticking to the clean, smooth outer surface of the cowling.
Cowling cleaned up with tape applied
A closer look. Notice the tape on the left "correcting" a swerving cut line -- oops.
The flaps mounted to wood stand-offs to keep the outer surface up off the work bench.
