Brief Description:  Cabin - Interior paint

After much preparation, finally began painting interior parts. For the parts shown, the alcad surface was roughed-up slightly with an ultra fine Scotch-brite pad (3M part number 37448), then cleaned with an Automotive Prep cleaner (Napa brand, Martin Senour Paints, part number 7234). Next, a light primer coating (1:1 mixture of DPX171 Self Etching Primer and DPX172 Etching Primer Catalyst) was applied and set to dry for about 30 - 40 minutes (75 degrees, low humidity). The primer was applied with an HVLP gun with a 1.7mm tip with a low 15-20 PSI input pressure. Finally, 2 to 3 coats of Polar White (2001 Toyota code 068) semi-gloss paint (1:1 mixture of M6696K DuPont ChromaBase BC & ChromaSystem Basemaker 7175S Mid Temp). The paint applies nicely with an HVLP gun. In my case I used a Finex FX100 detail gun with a low 15 PSI input pressure. I also used an inline "last chance" water filter and a pressure guage at the gun. I could have easily used any HVLP gun with a 1.3mm to 1.5mm tip set to a low pressure. This particular gun has a 1.0mm tip. All-in-all, very pleased with the results (even after all of the complaining!).
