Brief Description: Center Section - more fabrication
Continued the fabrication of the various components on the Center Section. The plans for the Control Column mounts call out an optional weight-saving modification to trim material from the mounts. In this case, I think it's worth doing, so time was spent trimming these parts. There are also two 1 7/16 inch spacers made from 1/4 inch I.D. tubing that require exact dimensions. To do this, (as suggested in the manual), the parts were rough-cut to size then chucked in the drill press and the ends were slowly turned against a flat file on the drill press table until the required dimension was achieved. This produces not only the correct length, but perfect 90 degree ends as well (see pictures from the 21st). Mike S. was able to spend a couple of hours helping out today with setting some rivets for the K-1000 nutplates on the top of the rear spar.
