Brief Description: Bend Elevator leading edges and check for fit
The day was spent bending the leading edges of the elevators. It's a difficult and slow process. To make things easier I secured the bending pipe to the benchtop and carefully bent the skin. It worked out pretty nicely. Next, the rod-end bearings were attached to the elevators in order to mount them to the horizonatal stabilizer. However, the horizontal stabilizer plans called out trimming the skin at the point where the elevator counter-balance weight swings. An 1/8 inch minimum gap is required. Once this was done, the elevators mounted up and swung nicely. Next will be to check that the minimum up/down clearance is obtained. It's very gratifying to see the elevators hung on the horizontal stabilizer!
