Brief Description:  Match Drilling L Aux Z-Brackets to Spar

Today, I spent a portion of my workday assembling some bicycles for Aneta and me. Our previous bikes were falling apart and it was time for us to replace them. Assembly went fast, but I had other "honeey do's" to be done as well before getting to building. I also had a visit from David Paule, a local builder from Boulder, CO, whose building an RV-3. Dave is a retired aerospace engineer, so needless to say, I was happy to show him my project and walk him through the fuel tank mods I'm doing. He made some good suggestions regarding the vent line sizing, so I think I will go back to my original idea of using 3/8" tube to vent the mains to the aux tanks, instead of 1/4". Once we were done visiting, I got to work match-drilling the L Aux tnak Z-brackets to the wing spar. As you have seen previously, this requires clecoing the entire tank assembly to the aft wing assembly in order to locate the Z-bracket holes in the spar web (since they don't exist for the aux tanks). The end Z-brackets are accessible, so they can be marked and drilled. Then the entire baffle assembly, with Z-brackets clecoed, gets double-side tape on each bracket. When the assembly is clecoed back in place, it can then be disassembled in place, leaving the other Z-brackets in place, to be drilled. Everything went smoothly and was disassembled once all the holes were match-drilled.
