Today i began the tailcone. This is the back (empennage) part of the plane. Once it's together, with all of the parts I've made so far attached to it, it should really begin looking like a plane. The first steps require some fabrication and finishing of parts, including the tail tie down anchor and several brackets and stiffeners. In order to make this part, you have to cut some pretty thick aluminum and then thread the hole to receive the tie down eye that will be installed later. This tie down is what holds the back of the plane in place on the ground when the winds blowing, so it's important that it be strong. After that, I began assembling and match-drilling some of the bulkhead parts.
