Today, I continued fabricating the MotoPod according to the instructions provided by MotoPod. After fabricating all the hoisting cables, it was time to fabricate the jacking mechanism inside the pod. Basically, it's a shuttle block that rides in a track, shuttling all the cables across the bottom of the pod, thus shortening or lengthening them, depending on which way the jack screw turns. As part of this assembly, there are large conglomerations of Melville washers, which provide dampening of the movement in the steel cables. Basically they act like shocks and prevent the cables from being damaged due to shock loading. Very cool.
