Brief Description:  Bought an RV-3B Project!

Today, based on pictures and recommendations from some trusted people on Vans Airforce, I purchased a partially completed RV-3B kit. The deal was just too good to be passed up. Very few kits for the RV-3 are being built, due to it being a "plans-built" kit. That means that almost none of the parts are pre-punched, cut or otherwise fabricated for you. In addition, the plans aren't even that good, in that they don't have real good "step by step" instructions,

The kit is only about 2 1/2 years old, which is practically "new" for an RV-3 kit. The builder was a repeat offender, and this would have been his 3rd RV built, had he not lost his medical and decided to sell. The tail feathers are built, but need fiberglass tips, rigging and some cosmetic work. The wings still need fiberglass tips, rigging, wiring, lights, pitot, etc. The fuselage skeleton is beyond the "flip over" canoe stage. It's out of the jigs, which helps a lot, but not yet on the gear. Unfortunately, I see several rivets that will need to be drilled out and replaced in the fuselage, because they don't meet my standards. Probably just cosmetic, though. No work has been done on firewall forward, canopy, fairings, interior floor pans, top skins, etc All in all, there is still loads of work to do, so don't expect me to be flying it soon.

It will be great to have the 10 flying, but I really, really, really want an RV-3B also. Most pilot's who have flown one say it's the purest flying airplane they've ever strapped on. I plan on finishing the RV-10 build first, before tackling the 3. However, I'm excited to get going on it, so I may just have to do some work when I'm waiting on parts or something for the 10. Now I just need to clean up the shop!
