Brief Description:  Flight #14

• Hobbs: 14.3 to 14.9 = 0.6 hrs (13 hours total)
• As of today I've richened the sh*t out of it (#2 needle). It's a full 1-1/4 turn rich of the stock setup (I've been going in 1/4 turn increments). My EGTs are 1400-1430, but the CHTs are much better now; sometimes down to 320. But idle is crappy the first several minutes after startup. I have to keep it around 1,500 - 1,600 RPM. Full power works fine; no hesitation. Primary and secondary ignitions seem to be in sync at or above 2,000 RPM. Climbing out at 3,000+ RPM. Again, CHTs fine, EGTs up there.
• So what I can do is:
- Leave it alone, but turn up the idle screw. Don't worry about EGTs, per Mike Busch's comments.
- Richen some more until I get hesitation at full throttle, then dial it back. See what happens with all the numbers.
- Change to another needle. Not sure which one and why. How do I know when I've maxed out the #2 needle?
• Taxiing back after a flight (so engine is warm), it will idle at 900, but not happily (it might even die, but I didn't wait to find out while rolling out). 1,100 sounds and feels better.
• Idling, even below 1,400 or so, gives "brub, brub, brub, brub" sound. When everything was too lean (before messing with the needle), it was all nice and even; no stuttering sound, and nice idle. Not sure if that means anything; if one is better than the other.
