I cut out a section of the lower cowl to allow the air filter to fit. I put the lower cowl on, and it turns out the blister I made was way bigger than needed. In photo 2 you can see one corner, plus the bolts, protruding beyond the face of the cowl.
So I think what I will do is use the piece I cut out, angle it like photo 3, and glass that opening.
In putting on the full cowl it was VERY difficult. I regret having made the horizontal split cowl. Others have done a good job. I did not. Everything is tight, and alignment is extremely difficult. When it's painted, getting the lower cowl on by myself without scratching or chipping it is going to be a real chore.
