I spent this last week looking for a shop that had a press to separate my prop hub from the crank. The problem is that the prop flange and the crank journals are wider than the support beams on everyone's presses. So after unsuccessfully finding a shop with a suitable press, I went to Harbor Freight and bought a $75 6-ton press.
I had to modifty the press to take the crank/hub. The support beams are connected with two short pieces of angle, so I just hack sawed through the two connecting angles so they were independent. Now I could put the hub in place, push the two support beams against the press, and use a couple of clamps to make sure they didn't push apart.
The hub and crank separated with no trouble! Make darn sure you catch the crank as it falls away!
To get the timing gear off I just used a Harbor Freight gear puller (last photo).
I put the crank in the freezer so tomorrow I can try to put it all back together with new bearings.
