Brief Description: Another test run
|
|
Today is Mother's Day, and I spent several hours on the airplane (pictures). Now THAT'S a wife! :-)
Email to Joe Norris at Sonex:
I did another test run this weekend and made a couple of videos from inside the cockpit to send to Joe Norris at Sonex. The files are pretty large, so I had to put them on my office FTP site:

I don't know how well you can hear the engine, but when I switch from the secondary (S) to the primary (P) the engine runs rough, and loses a lot of RPMs. But the EGTs never change, so all cylinders are firing.
It seems if I get up over 2,000 rpm and do the test, the P runs OK (the higher the RPMs, the less difference there is between the P and S). But below 2,000 RPM it runs rough on the P-only. And if I have the RPMs anywhere from idle to about 1,200 RPMs, the engine quits when I turn off the S ignition. At high RPMs the engine continues to run on the P.
So is this normal? Is the P not supposed to be able to run the engine by itself at lower RPMs?
