- The pilot-side canopy strap was short on both ends by almost 1/4" at each end, so I made a new one using the old as a template (photo 1).
- With the canopy on, I marked 4 locations on the canopy to drill holes. The strap underneath (which I temporarily riveted a wile ago) already had its pilot holes, so I just pressed the canopy material against that and carefully marked where 4 of the holes were.
- Removed the canopy and the hinge strap. On the work bench I carefully drilled the 4 holes I had marked, then cleco'd the strap to the canopy using those 4 pilot holes (photos 2 & 3).
- Then I drilled the rest of the pilot holes using the holes already in the strap.
- Removed the strap and updrilled the strap holes for the rivets.
- Updrilled the canopy holes, making them oversize (9/64" dia.) so the canopy doesn't crack when riveted.
- And then up-drilled the holes in the canopy frame, that takes the strap.
