Brief Description:  Custom canopy lock - Pg 1 of 3

Tonight I put in a custom canopy lock. I didn't like the one called for in the plans, locking with a clumsy looking pad lock.

So I used a lock made for doors and hatches on things like boats. This one is weather resistant, with a dust door that only opens when the key is inserted.

In photo 1 located the hole for the lock. I needed to make sure the latch cleared the cylinder when it was in the unlocked position, which is why it's so low.

To keep the lock from rotating, this one requires a hole that is not fully round. It has 2 flat lands 180 degrees from each other. If the cylinder tries to rotate in the fuselage side, it won't because of the flat spots. To do that I drilled to the width of the flat spots, then finished the round parts with a small curved file.

There are more photos on the next 2 pages (they may be out of order since Kitlog tends to put the FIRST things posted, LAST online).
